Calculates the height of a landing from the Stairwell Length and Total Height.
Rows
Actual Measurements
- Total Height: Measurement from the floor of the top level to the floor of the bottom level.
- Stairwell Length: Horizontal distance from the top level (where the stairs start) to the back of the Stairwell.
- Landing Depth: provides a measurement from the Top Down to the top of landing and a Bottom Up to the top of landing.
- Total Headroom: Floor of bottom level to ceiling of bottom level. Landing is placed within this dimension. Use to calculate the Headroom.
Risers & Runs
- Total Number of Risers: modify to change the landing height.
- Risers Above Landing: modify to change the landing height.
- Actual Risers: calculated from the Total Height.
- Actual Run: calculated from the total stairwell run (Stairwell Length - Landing Depth).
Treads
- Tread Width: Run + 1&1/4in nosing.
- Treads Above Landing: Number of Treads above the Landing. Used to calculate Number of Treads needed.
Landing Height
- Top Down: Vertical measurement from the floor of the top level to the Landing. Top Down + Bottom Up should equal the Total Height.
- Landing Position: Placement of Landing. Landing is at the First riser, Second riser, Third riser, etc.
- Bottom Up: Vertical measurement from the floor of the bottom level to the top of the Landing. Top Down + Bottom Up should equal the Total Height.
Extras
- Actual Landing Depth: landing depth plus one run.
- Headroom: Vertical measurement from the ceiling of the bottom level to the top of the Landing.
- Angle of Incline: Angle the stairs are at, from horizontal to vertical.

Examples
Example 1
Given the following information about the stairs, what is the other data required to complete a stair's landing:
- Total Height: 14ft
- Stairwell Length: 17ft
- Landing Depth: 3ft
- Total Headroom: 8ft 7&1/2in
This produces the following results:
Risers & Runs
-Total Number of Risers: 22
-Risers Above Landing: 19
-Actual Risers: 7&5/8in
-Actual Run: 9&5/16in
Treads
-Tread Width: 10&9/16in
-Treads Above Landing: 18
Landing Height
-Top Down: 12ft 1&1/16in
-Landing Position: 3rd Riser
-Bottom Up: 1ft 10&15/16in
Extras
-Actual Landing Depth: 3ft 9&5/16in
-Headroom: 6ft 8&9/16in
-Angle of Incline: 39.3°
Example 2
If the same stairs contain 23 risers instead of 22, what is the results?
- Total Number of Risers to 23
Results:
- Actual Risers: 7&5/16in
- Landing Position: 4th Riser
- Headroom: 6ft 2&5/16in
Note: Headroom should be at least 6ft 8in to pass Building Codes.
Example 3
If the risers above the landing is 20 instead, what is the results?
- Risers Above Landing: 20
Results:
- Actual Run: 8&13/16in
- Landing Position: 3rd Riser
- Headroom: 6ft 9&9/16in
- Angle of Incline: 39.6°
