Help

Calculates the total resistance of a circuit when multiple resistors are used.
Series circuits are circuits where the resistors are wired end to end so that the current only has one path to flow.

Parallel circuits are wired in a manner that allows the current to flow through multiple paths.
Combination circuits are circuits that contain resistors wired in both series and parallel. To calculate the total resistance of a combination circuit, you must first find the total resistance of all resistors wired in series. Next find the total resistance of the resistors wired in parallel. The total resistance of a combination circuit can be found by adding these totals together.

Rows

- Circuit Type: Choose either Series or Parallel for circuit type.
- Resistor Rating: Enter the rating of each individual resistor in a separate box (Fields 1 - 10).
- Resistance: Total resistance in ohms of this circuit based on the type of circuit and the rating of the resistors being used.

Examples

Example 1

- 4: 0 ohms
- 5: 0 ohms
- 6: 0 ohms
- 7: 0 ohms
- 8: 0 ohms
- 9: 0 ohms
- 10: 0 ohms
- Resistance: 51 ohms
The resistance is 51 ohms.

Example 2

Calculate the total resistance of a circuit with 6 Ω, 12 Ω, and 33 Ω resistors wired in Parallel.
- Circuit Type: Parallel
Resistor Rating:
- 1: 6 ohms
- 2: 12 ohms
- 3: 33 ohms
- 4: 0 ohms
- 5: 0 ohms
- 6: 0 ohms
- 7: 0 ohms
- 8: 0 ohms
- 9: 0 ohms
- 10: 0 ohms
The resistance is 3.57 ohms.

Example 3

Calculate the total resistance of a circuit with 8 Ω, 10 Ω, and 24 Ω resistors wired in Parallel and connected to 6 Ω and 36 Ω resistors wired in series.

STEP 1

- Circuit Type: Series
Resistor Rating:
- 1: 6 ohms
- 2: 36 ohms
- 3: 0
- 4: 0
- 5: 0
- 6: 0
- 7: 0
- 8: 0
- 9: 0
- 10: 0
The resistance is 42 ohms.

STEP 2

- Circuit Type: Parallel
Resistor Rating:
- 1: 8 ohms
- 2: 10 ohms
- 3: 24 ohms
- 4: 0
- 5: 0
- 6: 0
- 7: 0
- 8: 0
