This calculator helps split a restaurant bill between 2 to 4 individuals or couples.
First, you enter the total food cost and a tax rate and tip percentage, and the total bill is calculated.
Second, you put in each person's purchased food amount, and the appropriate total for food, tax and tip is calculated for each individual (or couple).
The total for food, tax and tip in the first section should match the total for food, tax and tip in the second section, or someone has stiffed you.

The tax rate is 8.0% and everyone decides to tip 15%, so the total including tax and tip equals $264.45.
Prof. Plum says his food bill before tax and tip should be $55.00. This equals $67.65 once tax and tip are added.
Col. Mustard says his food bill before tax and tip should be $65.00. This equals $79.95 once tax and tip are added.
Miss Scarlett says her food bill before tax and tip should be $40.00. This equals $49.20 once tax and tip are added.
Mrs. Peacock says her food bill before tax and tip should be $55.00. This equals $67.65 once tax and tip are added.
The total food expense of $215.00 and total including tax and tip of $264.45 match the first calculation, so everyone was honest.
Each person should put in their total including tax and tip to settle the bill.
