Help

Combines the Calories,Formula template with TPN-kCal:Gm Nitrogen to determine TOTAL kCAL/kg/day provided from both sources combined. If the patient has missed some enteral feeding and you've failed to input "Feeding missed" volume the first time the data is entered, the template should be cleared and data re-input.

Rows

- Weight: the patient's weight
- Feeding frequency: the frequency of enteral feedings (in hours). Continuous drip feedings would have a value of "1" input for feeding frequency [hrs] and the mL/HOUR rate input for Volume per feeding [mL]. The value defaults to 3.
- Volume per feeding: the mL volume of each feeding (this is NOT the total daily mL volume)
- kCAL per oz of formula: the concentration in kilocalories per ounce of the enteral feeding. The value defaults to 20.
- Feeding missed in 24hr: the milliliter volume of feedings missed in the past 24 hours. The value defaults to 0.
- Formula kCAL per day: the total kilocalories per day provided by the formula administered
- Formula kCAL/kg/day: TOTAL kilocalories per kilogram per day supplied by this enteral feeding
- TPN mL/kg/day: total milliliters per kilogram per day of parenteral nutrition solution administered
- TPN Dextrose Conc: dextrose concentration in percentage (Example D10W = "10") in the parenteral nutrition solution
- Fat Grams/kg/day: the total grams per kilogram per day of intravenous fat emulsion that the patient will receive
- AA Grams/kg/day: the total grams per kilogram per day of intravenous amino acid that the patient will receive
- TPN kCAL: Gm Nitrogen: the ratio of non-protein kilocalories to grams of nitrogen in the TPN
- TPN Kcal/kg/day: TOTAL Kilocalories per kilogram per day (with amino acid calories included) provided by the TPN
- TPN Kcal/mL: the calculated concentration in Kilocalories per mL of parenteral nutrition solution.
- TPN GIR [mg/kg/min]: the milligram/kilogram/minute rate of glucose delivered from the TPN. Also known as glucose infusion rate
- kCAL/kg Formula+TPN: the total kilocalories per kilogram per day provided by the enteral feedings plus the TPN
- Patient identifier: You may add initials or a name to the results to help you identify whose they are. This identifier will be included when you email results. This may also be left blank.
Dextrose is based on 3.4 kCAL per gram.
Fat (lipid) is based on 10 kCAL per gram.
AA is based on 4 kCAL per gram.

CB is a 3 kilogram infant who is receiving 5 mL of 20 kCal/ounce formula every 3 hours. How many kCAL/kg/day is he receiving? How many KCAL/day is he receiving? Input the following:
- Weight: 3 kg
- Feeding frequency: 3 hrs
- Volume per feeding: 5 mL
- kCAL per oz of formula: 20
- Feeding missed in 24hr: 0 mL
The calculator solves for Formula kCAL per day giving an answer of 27 and for Formula kCAL/kg/day giving an answer of 8.9.
CB is also receiving parenteral nutrition containing 15% dextrose, 3 gm/kg day of amino acids, and 3 gm/kg/day of Fat infusing at 70 mL/kg/day. How many Kilocalories per kilogram per day is he receiving from this solution? What is the ratio of non-protein calories to grams of nitrogen and the Kcal/mL concentration? Input the following:
- TPN mL/kg/day: 70
- TPN Dextrose Conc: 15%
- Fat Grams/kg/day: 3
- AA Grams/kg/day: 3
The calculator solves for TPN Kcal:Gm Nitrogen giving an answer of 137, TPN Kcal/kg/day giving an answer of 77.7, TPN Kcal/mL concentration of 1.11, and TPN GIR [mg/kg/min] giving an answer of 7.3.
The calculator then solves for kCAL/kg Formula+TPN giving an answer of 86.6 kCAL/kg.
